Since I updated to Joomla 2.5.6 Fox contact now gives the following error when you click on the Fox contact submit button:

Could not instantiate mail function.
Error sending email. Could not instantiate mail function.

I reported this to Joomla but they say that "There are some Extension developers that will need to create their own updates to reflect the changes in 2.5.6. This is documented on the Announcements discussion if you want more details."

If you post the link of the discussion you mentioned I am glad to take a look.

However, regardless of Joomla and Fox Contact version, this is a vague phpMailer error.
Did you read my documentation related to this error?

Thanks for the info, changing to SMTP fixed the problem but I would still like tp know why PHPMail stopped working?

Mine did not work either after upgrading Joomla to 2.5.6
Changed it to SMTP and now it is working again!!
